Become a Fair Play Volunteer
Update: Fair Play volunteer applications for Sydney World Pride 2023 have now closed.
The Fair Players are specially trained volunteers who are on site at the Mardi Gras Party to share legal and safety information with party-goers, monitor and document the operations of the NSW Police Force and provide support to people who have been searched or questioned by police.
In 2023 as part of Sydney World Pride the Fair Players will also be attending the Domain Dance Party, the Bondi Beach Party and Rainbow Republic.
We are looking for legally trained volunteers to attend the events as a Fair Player and provide advice and referrals in our dedicated pop-up “party” clinics.
To become a volunteer, please read the information and fill in the application form below.

What we are looking for in all Fair Play volunteers
This year we particularly want to hear from solicitors with experience delivering criminal law advice. We require our volunteers to have:

An understanding of the roles of police officers and relationships with the community
An understanding of the sensitivities of the project
An ability to take direction
An ability to communicate well
A willingness to be a witness in potential legal proceedings
In 2023, Fair Play will be on site at the following four events.

Domain Dance Party – 26th February - 4pm-11pm
Bondi Beach Party – 4th March - 2pm-11pm
Rainbow Republic – 5th March- 4pm-10pm

Monday 27 February – 5pm – 9pm
Thursday 2 March 5pm – 9pm
Monday 6 March 5pm – 9pm
Thursday 9 March 5pm - 9pm
Fair Play activities will end when the police operation ends at each party, which is usually a few hours before the event finishes. Volunteering at these events means that you will receive an entry ticket and the opportunity to enjoy the party during rostered breaks.
All Fair Play volunteers will be required to attend the Fair Play Training and briefing session on Wednesday 15 February from 6-8pm, which will be delivered in a hybrid format from ACON’s offices in Surry Hills.
Fair Play is a sexuality and gender diverse community initiative focussing on legal rights and keeping safe during LGBTQ+ events. Fair Play reflects a commitment between sexuality and gender diverse communities and the NSW Police Force to work together in a transparent and collaborative way. Fair Play is a partnership between the Inner City Legal Centre, ACON the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and World Pride
